Never under estimate the power of a simple sensory tub 🙊

Whenever I want a quick and easy play activity, you can guarantee I’m gonna grab a sensory base, some utensils and some containers of some description!

I’ve found that our little learner really love to scoop and pour. They’re obsessed with the movement of the sensory bases and love to fill and empty containers. These explorations all form the basis for a pretty solid mathematical understanding of capacity and volume #LearningThroughPlay

So what are my favourite sensory bases? Pasta, rice, sand, water, corn kernels, chickpeas, split peas, bird seed, dirt, aquarium pebbles, white beans, black beans, cloud dough, kinetic sand, polenta, pom poms....the list goes on! If you can scoop it, you can add it to a tub!

Our stay at the @big4adventurewhitsunday was everything we could have wished for and more!! #Ad

There was so much to keep the kids busy which ended up being the biggest blessing in disguise.

You see, at the start of our 6 hour stint from the Gem Fields to Airlie Beach, Kurtis’ car had engine troubles. This meant we had to get it into a mechanic at Airlie and we were without a car for several days 😬

We were SO glad this little hiccup happened at the Big4 because the kids had so much to do! We spent hours at a time at the pool and going down all the slides. We ate ice-creams, played mini golf, visited the farm and played at the playground.

The kids loved it so much that on our last day as we drove through the gates, Elliot cried because he wanted to stay forever! 🥺

This was our first stay at a Big4 and it certainly won’t be our last. I can’t think of a better way to holiday with kids!

We would get out and about and fill our days with shopping trips and play groups but I
so wish I had a resource to help me get playful with my new baby as a new mum.

Let me say it again for the people at the back. Mud kitchens don’t have to be fancy to be inviting!!!

This old mud kitchen of ours provided all the fun and excitement for three little people for many years. The only reason we built our new fancy mud kitchen was because we saw how much they loved our simple one!!!

All Kurtis did was grab an old sink from FB marketplace and then built a stand around it.

But it can be even easier! Just pop some old pots and pans from a secondhand store out on the grass. EASY PEASY! 🌿

Keep it simple and build up over time once you see that your little people enjoy this kind of play 👌🏼

Over the years, we’ve tried lots of different storage combinations but here are some of my favourites:

👉🏻 TROFAST from @ikea_australia for some of our small world play materials

👉🏻 8 compartment organisers from @bunnings for natural loose parts

👉🏻 Food storage containers from @kmart thanks to @littlepicassosadelaide

For our small world play props especially, I look for stage that’s easily accessible for our little learners so they can be as independent as possible. THAT is what sets them up for success and loads of independent play!
