Today is an exciting day. A VERY exciting day!
My brand new book, Sensory Play for Toddlers and Preschoolers, has officially launched! Writing this book was something that I’ve had on my vision board for many years…but it always felt so out of reach and something I just kept putting off. I can’t even begin to tell you how excited I was when I found an email from my publisher sitting in my inbox about a year ago. It was the little push that I needed to make this crazy dream a reality!
And today it’s time to celebrate because my brand new book is available to purchase all across the world!
Now if you’ve been following my journey here at Little Lifelong Learners for a while, you probably know that I actually had a Sensory Play eBook which I wrote back in 2017. It was very popular but I always felt like something was missing from it. It felt a bit unfinished. So once I signed on with my publisher, I decided to rework the entire book. My goal was to have this beautiful resource that parents could flip through with their little learners and choose an activity to do together. I wanted it be really kid friendly but also visually appealing and supportive for parents that were just getting started with sensory play.
Inside the book, you’ll find over 40 of our favourite sensory bases and invitations all of which have been tried and tested with my three beautiful children. They are activities we come back to over and over! Each activity also includes ideas for extending and adapting the invitation meaning there are well over 120 activities to choose from!
My belief is that sensory play is really the foundation for lifelong learning. It sets the scene for so many mathematical and scientific investigations and understandings. When your little learner explores a tub of sensory rice, they’re investigating concepts such as empty and full. They’re developing their mathematical vocabulary, their hand-eye coordination and their fine motor skills. By adding some tongs or tweezers to a tub, your little learner is also strengthening the muscles in their hands and wrists. Sensory play is how our children learn about and make sense of the world. It’s how they begin building all those magical connections inside the brain and it’s done all through play! But above all of the developmental benefits of sensory play, it’s an amazing way to create beautiful memories of childhood and play with your little learners.
Right now, Sensory Play for Toddlers and Preschoolers is available to order from many of your favourite book stores including Amazon*, Amazon Australia, Book Depository*, Barnes & Noble, Target, Booktopia*, Angus and Robertson, Dymocks and other independent retailers. There’s plans to have the book stocked in physical stores soon too so watch this space!
