    Ocean Themed Small World Tub

    January 22, 2017

    Ocean Themed Small World Tub

Today I’d like to share a beautiful ocean themed small world that my husband set up for our 2.5 year old! We recently got home from a wonderful week-long road trip down to Sydney and back to Brisbane. During our trip, we stopped and explored at many different beaches, but our favourite was at Coff’s Harbour. On our final afternoon, our toddler collected lots of coral, pebbles and other loose parts on the beach. We popped them in a bucket and brought them home, knowing they’d be great for some imaginative play!

    Sight Word Fishing Tub

I’m always on the lookout for engaging, hands on ways to learn sight words. One of the favourite activities in my Prep classroom was always sight word fishing!

Guided Drawing and Creative Writing Lesson

Guided Drawing and Creative Writing Lesson
Β Even though my teaching career has only been short, I had always felt most comfortable in Prep. This is probably because it was all I knew during the early days of my career.

As some of you may know, I taught Prep for two years with my very own class and absolutely loved it! That is until I fell pregnant and my contract wasn’t renewed (is that even allowed?!) so I started some relief work in 2014. I was offered a two week contract in Year 1 at the most beautiful little country school. By the time I had finished the contract, I decided that Year 1 was my new favourite year to teach EVER!

Under the Sea Sensory Play Tub

    August 1, 2015

Under the Sea Sensory Play Tub

As you know, I am a big fan of sensory play. But sometimes, my Little Learner still mouths things. I try to come up with ideas that suit her during this mouthing phase and came up with this fun tub. The best part is that it’s edible! If your little one loves tasting things, this will definitely be a new favourite!

    • My beautiful friend Amy from @playfullittlelearners posted a beautiful reminder this week. A reminder to keep it simple and follow the lead of our little learners. 🌟 Sometimes we see others who are setting up totally kick-butt invitations to play and we compare their journey to our own. We worry that we aren't giving our children the best start because we aren't doing the same amazing activities with our children. But guess what? #ComparisonIsTheThiefOfJoy 🌟 Follow your little learners. Sit back and observe them. What are they drawn to? What type of play lights a fire in their soul? It's probably something super simple! 🌟 Yesterday I was inspired to get back to basics again by my friend Lycie at @the_paige_diaries. Lilly helped add some dried lavender to our lavender scented rice. We then added our natural Grimms bowls from @thecreativetoyshop and some wooden spoons. Our super simple #kmartplaytray was a hit with both kids who thought it was the bees knees 🐝 'cause who doesn't love sensory rice?! 🌟
    • I've been busily putting together some busy bags for my little learners! With baby number 3 on their way later this year, hubby and I have been trying to get out of the house for a meal with the kids once a week before we are outnumbered! πŸ˜‚ The last few outings have been a bit of a disaster with two little people that just want to run and move so I've been thinking of easy activities to pop in my bag to keep them amused. This is a super easy #finemotorskills activity that both of our little learners adore! 🌟 These salt shakers can be tricky to source but any shaker with a removable lid works just as well (think spice containers and sprinkle shakers). 🌟 Tried an activity you've seen on my feed? Don't forget to tag me using my hashtag #littlelifelonglearners so I can see all the fun you're getting up to! 😘
    • Next year my biggest little one is off to school so I've decided to finally start some name recognition and eventually writing with her! Lilly will be four next month so I'm starting with name recognition. I've gone on a #crazyteachermama rampage today and labelled all.the.things for her and Elliot. I also made some family name cards with photos which I'll pop with her drawing materials 🌟 Once she's recognising her name consistently, we will move onto the name puzzles and Montessori moveable alphabet magnets. We will go on letter searches in magazines and take photos of letters on signs when we're out and about. Finally we will start working on writing her name, both with a pen and in different mediums like paint, in shaving cream and on whiteboards! 🌟Call me crazy but I'm so excited for this next stage in her development! 🌟 Have a name writing tip to share? Please do let me know in the comments below! 🌟
    • Sooooo many of you messaged asking to see more of our construction #smallworld so here it is in all its glory! My clever hubby set this one up with absolutely no direction from me #ItsRubbingOffOnHimNow 😁 He popped down some Kmart road tape first and then added some big rocks from our garden. Next he added all the small pebbles which we got in a bag from Bunnings. Finally he added our Kmart construction vehicles, @thecreativetoyshop crane and all the other little bits and pieces that he dug up from our train set and vehicle tubs πŸ‘·πŸ»πŸ‘·πŸ»β€β™€οΈ Did he do an amazing job or what?! πŸ‘·πŸ»β€β™€οΈπŸ‘·πŸ»Head on over to my bio to see ALL the photos from our construction dramatic play space! πŸ”¨
    • Our play room has been transformed into a very busy construction zone! Our little learners have absolutely loved using these @melissaanddougtoys cardboard bricks in their play! Swipe across to see more! I borrowed them from my mum knowing that they'd be super popular in our space but now I think I'm going to have to source my own set! πŸ‘·πŸ»πŸ‘·πŸ»β€β™€οΈElliot sat back and watched Lilly build with the blocks and has been mimicking her play all weekend. I can't wait to see how his play evolves over the coming days while big sis is at Kindy πŸ‘·πŸ»πŸ‘·πŸ»β€β™€οΈ Want to set up you own construction zone? Check out the link in my profile to grab a copy of my printables! #littlelifelonglearners
    • If you've been following along for a while, you'll know that I'm a tiny bit in love with dramatic play! It's a wonderful way to encourage early literacy skills such as mark making and vocabulary development in a FUN and PLAYFUL way...which just makes my #teachermama heart sing ❀️ This week I got to work creating a new construction themed dramatic play set (which you can grab a copy of over on my website) and over the weekend, my hubby and I set it up for the kids! We moved everything out of the playroom #YeahWeveLostOurMinds πŸ™Š and in moved allllll of the construction site play things! I cannot wait to share more photos with you over the coming days but here's a little look at Lilly exploring our epic small world table! #sensoryplaytime πŸ‘·πŸ»β€β™€οΈπŸ‘·πŸ» Are you ready to go all kinds of playful learning craycray too? Head on over to my bio and grab a copy of the printables for your little learners too! πŸ‘·πŸ»πŸ‘·πŸ»β€β™€οΈ #littlelifelonglearners
    • Frogs have it easy. They can eat what bugs them πŸΈπŸ™Š #dadjoke 🐸 I love a good opportunity to naturally explore scientific principles! When my mum found some frog spawn in her pond, we were so excited to bring it home! We observed the changes that occurred each week and the kids just about lost their minds when their little tadpoles grew legs! 🐸 I decided to use the opportunity to put together some frog life cycle resources for all the other teachers, mamas and educators that share this wonderful process with their little learners! 🐸 Have you observed life cycles with your little ones? Let me know in the comments below! My favourite has been the monarch butterfly! πŸ¦‹ #littlelifelonglearners
    • This week our subscription bag from @thecreativetoyshop arrived and the kids have had an absolute ball exploring all our new resources! ✨ I was so incredibly excited when we opened the bag and saw some of the items I've had on my Wishlist since forever πŸ™Š #NotForTheKids #ItsAllForMe πŸ˜‚ These bags would make the perfect gift for the little learner in your life but they'd also be fantastic for early years teachers who want to build their stash of learning materials for all abilities! ✨ If you're feeling a little excited, you need to run right over to @thecreativetoyshop right now because Brianna has just done a fresh restock....they sold out super fast last time! ✨
